J. Scott Huffman, CFRE

Scott Huffman is the Senior Director of Development for the School of Dentistry, a position he has held since June of 2004.  Scott is responsible for managing all fund raising and alumni relations at the School and holds the certified fund raising executive designation (CFRE). He also serves as Executive Director of the University of Alabama School of Dentistry Alumni Association. He has worked in higher education for 18 years. Before coming to UAB, he served at the University of West Georgia as Associate Vice President for Development and Interim Vice President for Advancement. He has served as Chief Executive of three different educational foundations, including the Alabama School of Mathematics and Science in Mobile. Scott’s first career was in broadcast journalism. He worked as a news reporter and sports anchor for WAAY-TV in Huntsville from 1987 to 1989.

Scott earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama and master’s from Mississippi State University.

He is married to Susan of Starkville, Mississippi. They have two children, Ashley and Alex.

Kimberly Beiersdoerfer

Kimberly Beiersdoerfer joined the School of Dentistry as the Alumni Affairs Specialist in September, 2007. She has more than ten years of event planning and marketing experience. Prior to beginning a career at UAB, she served as Event Coordinator for the City of Homewood’s Rosewood Hall at Soho Square and Group Sales & Marketing Manager for the Birmingham Broadway Series. Beiersdoerfer’s responsibilities include planning and managing alumni relations communications, programs and special events. She is responsible for coordinating Alumni Weekend and serves as editor of DentAlumni.

Kimberly is a 2002 graduate of Samford University and holds a BS in Business Management. She also received a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from UAB in 2004. She and her husband, Brock were married in April 2011. To contact Kimberly, please call (205) 934.3575 or

Jessica Brooks Lane

Jessica Brooks Lane joined the School of Dentistry’s Development and Alumni Relations Department as a Development Officer on May 31 of this year. Her primary responsibilities include developing and cultivating external relations and soliciting major and reunion class gifts.

Lane is a native of Birmingham and a graduate of Mountain Brook High School and the University of Alabama, where she received her bachelor’s degree in Communication and Information Sciences in 2002.

Prior to joining the SOD, Lane was employed for three years as a major gifts officer at Birmingham-Southern College; before BSC she was the human resources staff recruiter for Balch & Bingham LLP, and she has worked at her family’s drug store, which has been in business for four generations.

Other fundraising, marketing, event and community experience includes her musical theatre performance and volunteer work with local theatre companies such as Red Mountain Theatre Company (formerly Birmingham Summerfest) and their Young Executives Council, the Junior League of Birmingham’s Choral Group and the JLB’s Public Relations Committee, Independent Presbyterian Church’s Start the Adventure in Reading program, the United Way of Central Alabama, Southern Accents magazine, and the Delta Zeta Birmingham Alumnae Chapter.

Charlene Phillips

Charlene Phillips is the Administrative Associate for the Development and Alumni Relations Office at the School of Dentistry.  Her responsibilities include fund raising support such as gift processing and stewardship.  Charlene also serves as Executive Secretary of the University of Alabama School of Dentistry Alumni Association.  Those responsibilities include working with Alumni Association Executive Council and Officers providing administrative support, alumni association membership,coordinating association expenditures and assisting with event planning.
