Welcome to the Department of Comprehensive Dentistry

The Department was established in year 2000 with the aim of comprehensive training of the undergraduates to provide excellence in dental care for every patient treated at the School and to produce the highest quality dental practitioners for the State of Alabama.

The Department of Comprehensive Dentistry encompasses the divisions of Preclinical Dentistry, Operative Dentistry, Comprehensive Care Program, and Practice Management. Its teaching activities are primarily focused on undergraduate students. The Preclinical Dentistry programs provide didactic information and simulation laboratory experience for Freshmen and Sophomores prior to the clinical phase of dental education. For Junior dental students, didactic and clinical instruction is provided by Junior Operative Dentistry. For Seniors, the Department offers the Senior Comprehensive Care Program, which allows students to provide multi-disciplinary dental care to their patients in the Comprehensive Care Clinic. Types of procedures include endodontics, periodontics, operative dentistry, fixed prosthodontics, removable prosthodontics, and oral surgery. In addition, the Senior Practice Management Program provides valuable information related to associateships, purchasing a dental practice, financial management, and other aspects of dental practice.
