Welcome to the UAB School of Dentistry, Department of Periodontics. Although you are not physically within the department, I hope this web site will give you an overview of our faculty and programs.

 

Our department is proud of its record in teaching, patient care, and research. We are active in teaching dental students, and residents in our Advanced Education Program in Periodontics. We offer programs including a 3-year certificate and a Master's degree program.

Our patient care programs are active and varied. State-of-the-art techniques such as implants and regeneration are used daily. In fact, American Health magazine named our department as one of the top centers in the U. S. for periodontal care.

Our research programs are numerous and diverse. These include clinical research programs in the diagnosis and treatment of periodontal disease, modeling of the progression of periodontal disease, studies of new regenerative and implant techniques, and studies of the link between periodontal disease and systemic diseases.

If you are interested in more basic research, numerous research projects are underway in collaboration with the Departments of Microbiology & Immunology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics, Biomaterials and Biomedical Engineering.
