Pre D A R T

The Pre-DART program is an intensive introduction to dental academics with a hands-on laboratory research experience in basic or clinical research. Pre-DART training is provided at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Dentistry in the Institute of Oral Health Research, a state-of-the-art research facility.
If you are a college health careers major, with some background in research, and you are interested in learning more about the exciting career opportunities in dental research and dental academic careers, then consider the Pre-DART program. Find out how a career in dental academics merges teaching, research, and clinical patient care.
Students selected for the Pre-DART program will work under the guidance of the UAB School of Dentistry’s top investigators while they participate in on-going research projects and take part in all aspects of basic and translation research. Trainees will also work on their own project, attend research group meetings, seminars, and be given the opportunity of presenting their findings at the annual SOD Scholars’ Symposium, where awards for outstanding research will be presented.
Pre-DART applications are due by May 1st, with top candidates interviewed in mid-May. Final selection will be made by the end of May with a start date of June 1, 2009.
The Pre-DART training program is funded by a grant from the ADEA and the Gies Foundation.
