Faculty Opportunities
The Institute of Oral Health Research (IOHR) at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Dentistry seeks candidates for faculty positions in research. Candidates should possess a DDS/DMD/MD and/or a PhD degree with preferably a documented history of funding and research productivity in the fields of Craniofacial/Developmental Biology or Tissue Bioengineering/Stem Cells. Successful candidates will be expected to establish a major research program within the School of Dentistry and develop collaborative research partnerships within the broader UAB research community (www.uab.edu). Research Facilities and start-up packages for this appointment will be appropriate for the successful candidate. Partial support for this faculty position is provided by the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) under a P30 grant mechanism with funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009. Candidates with research experience that complement the Center for Discoveries, Genomics & Therapeutics for Craniofacial Dental Diseases will be given preference.

Department of Endodontics

Director of the International Dentist Program
The University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Dentistry invites applicants for a full-time, non-tenure-earning faculty position. Position responsibilities include serving as Director and lead faculty member in the International Dentist Program. As part of an overall two-year, five-term period of study, each year this program enrolls five highly-qualified persons who have graduated from a dental school outside of the United States or Canada. Duties include coordinating clinical activity; supervising patient care; participating in didactic and clinical teaching; evaluating students’ professionalism, clinical progress and performance; and counseling students regularly. Other responsibilities include supervising staff who are directly appointed to work with the student group. Applicants must have a D.D.S. /D.M.D. or equivalent degree. Postgraduate education in restorative dentistry or prosthodontics is preferred. Applicants should possess the leadership skills necessary to effectively manage a training program. This position involves evaluation of clinical productivity, directing fellow colleagues in successful group management dynamics, and supervising patient flow and staff within the Comprehensive Care Clinic. The Department of Prosthodontics, University of Alabama School of Dentistry, is seeking applicants for a full-time non tenure earning position at the rank of Assistant Professor. Qualified candidates must have a D.M.D. / D.D.S. or equivalent degree, and advanced training in Prosthodontics from an ADA-accredited program. Applicants must have training in surgical placement of implants. Applicants must have a Master's degree in dental biomaterials. Experience teaching biomaterials topics is desirable. Specific responsibilities include didactic and clinical teaching in predoctoral and postdoctoral prosthodontics, teaching in the biomaterials curriculum, and providing direct patient care in a dental clinic dedicated to treating HIV/AIDS patients. Assistant Program Director
General Dental Residency
The Department of Diagnostic Sciences, University of Alabama School of Dentistry, invites applicants for a full-time, tenure track position as Assistant Program Director in its Division of General Dental Residency. The position will be available as early as June 1, 2009. Position responsibilities include the supervision of General Dental Residents (GPR and AEGD) in the thirteen-chair Hospital Dental Clinic, supervision of the residents in the operating room, clinical research projects, and some progrm administration and limited lecturing to undergraduate and post-graduate students on oral medicine and clinical research. The Assistant Program Director must be eligible for staff privileges at UAB Hospital. Candidates with a commitment to clinical research are especially encouraged also. Qualified applicants must have completed a CODA-accredited GPR program or have had experience as an Assistant Program director of a GPR or AEGD program.
